Roleplaying Rules
1) Style and ConductYour Roleplaying Posts should follow the format of that stated in the "Notations" thread. Because this is a Feudal Japan based roleplay, you may post SOME* things in Japanese. However, make sure to italicize all Japanese writing. Other than that, posts should be in English. Posts also need to be well written, with correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. No one wants to read sloppy posts.
There are no maximum or minimum post lengths, and you may post in whatever style you like (First person, Third Person, Present Tense, Past Tense).
As far as content goes, no bigotry is allowed toward users themselves. Bigotry in-character must be kept to a minimal. The same goes for sex, drugs and (rock and roll) other illegal content/activities.
2) LimitationsAll characters/players must abide by their in-character level. This means that a simple Monk Initiative cannot defeat a Master Level Samurai. Weapons must also rely on your character's rank. For example, a low-level thief will not possess the same weapons as an experienced Ninja. The same goes for weapon skill: An amateur Samurai will not wield a Katana as well as an experienced one.
All characters must adhere to the time period of
Ryoshin, which takes place in Feudal Japan during the Onin Wars period.
3) CombatRyoshin’s Turn-Based ConceptWhile the dice-based system is mainly used for enemies and ratio of attacks, the turn-based system determines the overall flow of the battle. There are two main factors that determine when and how many turns your character will receive per battle. The first is your character’s speed. Your speed is compared to both the users and enemies in that particular battle. Another factor is the type of weapon you use. If you have a single handed light weapon, every five points is a turn. Because two handed weapons generally hit harder and are heavier, every 10 points is a turn. If a user uses a two handed weapon, but only has 5 points, then that user must wait every other turn. If everyone speed is the same on the battle field, then everyone gets a turn in rotation. However, if a couple of users/enemies’ speed is different, that user/enemy may get more or less turns depending on the ratio. If that enemy’s/user’s speed is twice the number of points of everyone on the board's, that enemies/user goes twice.
NOTE: Speed is not the end all be all to a battle. In order to unlock some weapons, you must raise some of your characters attribute points. A stronger weapon with one turn can overcome a weaker weapon with multiple turns so choose your attributes wisely.
Ryoshin’s Scenarios ConceptNot all battles are won with fists. In Ryoshin, you must find other means of accomplishing a mission. There will be certain points where the right decision can mean success or failure. There are going to be times where you must make choices in order to complete the mission. In Ryoshin, when interacting with a character, you are given some options and your choice will decide the outcome. Make sure that you ask that particular character questions and choose you answers wisely.
Ryoshi’s User vs. User SystemWhile the other systems are used for NPC’s(For missions, battles, and so on), Ryoshin uses a special user versus user system. In this system, both users have a life bar of 100%. From there, each user will write out a portion of the battle scene. After the battle scene is written, the weapons you used, your durability, and your weapons' defense is all averaged and subtracted from your health. The battles are then judged by the admin members on a scale of one to 10. When those scores are added, it is then subtracted from the users life bar as well. When one of the user’s life bars reaches25%, they have the option to commit seppuku, but once it reaches 0%, the other user has the option to spare or kill his enemy. In order to kill another user, the other user must agree to a death match. If both users agree to have a death match, you must state the stipulation before the battle. Death matches are worth double the Daryoku because your character is at great risk. So a usual duel worth 25 Daryoku(5 points)is worth 50 Daryoku deathmatch. Once again, choose wisely because if you lose a death match, it is game over for that character. You can create another character, but depending on your past level, your level drops a few notches(Somewhere between two and five levels).
Ryoshin’s Battle GridRyoshin uses a three tier battle grid system. Each tier has its strengths and weaknesses.
First TierThe first tier is the front line. In the tier you can use a short, mid-range, or long-range weapon. The first tier allows you to deal the most damage, but you also absorb the most damage in the first tier as well.
Second TierThe second tier is the middle row: In this row, the enemy’s weapon will determine whether you take a normal amount of damage or reduced amount. If the enemy’s or user weapon is a mid-range or long ranged weapon, they that character can perform the normal amount of damage from the middle row. If they have a short ranged weapon; however, the damaged is reduced by 25%. In turn, if a user is in the middle row he takes 25% less damage from the enemy as well.
Third TierThe third tier is the last row: In this row, the user can take less damage, but unless they have a long range weapon, their attacks are reduced. If you have a short range weapon, your weapon does 50% less damage. If the user has a mid-range weapon that user’s damage is reduced by 25%.
During the battle you can toggle your character between these rows during you turn. A good strategy can determine if your user is successful or fails.
You also have the option to defend. In defense mode, your character does take any damage to his/her body, but your weapon is at risk. Your weapon’s durability determines the amount of damage is absorbed. Once your durability reaches zero; your weapon shatters. You can bring your weapon to a black smith to repair it, but depending on the level and modification of your weapon, it can become costly. Slightly to moderate damage weapons are always cheaper to repair. Once a weapon is shattered during battle, your weapon is useless and you are left with your bare hands. Unless the user has a martial art or a magic. Attacks from bare hands are usually minimal.
4) Non-Playable CharactersNon-playable characters are free to interact with using any character, as long as those NPC's do not play major roles. Moreover, the types of combat ready NPC's you can interact with depends on your rank. For instance, if you are a thief, you will NOT be able to interact with Ninja or Ninja Clans, unless provoked by another user. However, if you are a Ninja, you may take control of entire Clans. All NPC's have average stats, depending on what YOUR rank is (IE. If you are a Ninja Clan leader, your NPC's will have average stats of a Ninja level character).
*: Japanese (And other languages, such as Chinese, Russian, etc.) is alright for dialogue, monologues and soliloquies. However, one should NOT make an entire post in another language. It should also be noted that in dialogue, the person being spoken to must know the language the other is speaking in order to understand them.
