Hello new members! Now, I know that Creating A Character may seem like a daunting task at first. So many fields to fill out; so much information needed. However, once you get into creating your character, you'll find that it is actually quite easy. However, it is a very important step in beginning in the roleplay. So, my first word of advice to you is this: Design a Character that you LIKE! One that you will WANT to play as, one that you will WANT to upgrade! If you design a semi-decent character now, think of how you'll feel down the line.
The next thing to bear in mind is the time period that Ryoshin takes place, and the area it takes place in. Japan is in the middle of the Onin War (1472), and nearly all of Japan is at war over who the next Shogun should be. Your character, then, should be influenced by this time period. HOWEVER, do not feel constrained to be only a Japanese character. You can be almost anyone from any place, whether it be from China, Corea, Russia or small islands. Just make sure the place was actually around during this time period.
Now, the beginning of the registration is pretty simple, as it is basica information about your character. The part that gets complex is the finale; the History and Personality parts. So, let's break it down!
History
The history of your character is basically just a biography of your character's life so far. This part should be of decent life, as it will chronicle your character's path up to this point, starting from when he was a child. Remember to make it realistic and dependent on the time. If you need to, refer to the Timeline thread.
A good format for your history would be to start with your early childhood. From there, move on to your late childhood/early teens. Continue with this pattern, going from late teens/early adult all the way to where your character is now.
PERSONALITY
Your character's personality comes next. Personality can sometimes be difficult, especially if you don't have a definitive idea on your character. Remember that at this period in time, there were two main factions in Japan, both fighting over who should become the next Shogun. You can and should use this to help your character along. Think about things such as which side your character supports, if any; how he feels about the Shogun; What he thinks of the state of Japan; etc. Build off of this, and go deeper into his social personality. You can even use the history you created earlier! How has his childhood affected him now? Is he mean and hurtful, or is he compassionate and helpful?
Make sure to be descriptive in this area, although it should not be as long as the History section. Another tip is to think about yourself. Ryoshin means "Consciousness," so you should be conscious of yourself and your own feelings (If you haven't noticed yet, that is a major theme here). Give your character a conscious as well. Use it in the game; it will help you, and will add more depth to the story.
Hopefully, by now you've gotten some ideas for your character. Once you finish creating your character, you'll almost be set to go! Good luck, and have a good time.
