The sound of calm seas can be heard as a small ship appears. Inside the ship, a young man mediates on the events of his past. He starts by reflecting on his childhood. He sees visions of his clan, their discipline, and training objectives. Visions of an old man and a young girl come into his mind. As he begins to grow, he begins to see images of assassinations, war, and bloodshed. Images of severed limbs and splashes of blood begin to rain in his mind. As he grows, the girl in his images begins to grow with him. The scenes begin to flash between those two from vision of violence, to visions of sorrow, to visions of love, and then in a final vision as a spear approaches him, she jumps in front of him as he snaps out of his mediation in a cold sweat. An old man approaches him to notify him that they have arrived at the docks of their location and that he will need to depart soon. He also asked the young man if he is okay. The man nods, picks up a long object covered in a cloth and begin to walk out to the outer part of the ship. The light begins to shine in his eyes as he exits. Once the ship docks, he steps off and then looks around.Chien Lee: So this is Japan?
Chien grabs the pendant that’s around his neck and holds it in front of him. The vision of the woman in his dreams appears as she places it on him.
Chien Lee: It was quite a journey, but we made it. I will keep my promise of starting a new life for us.
Chien goes to the dock worker to ask for a little more information about the place.
Dock Worker: By the looks of it you have been traveling for a while. This is the city of Akita. From what you can see, we are not much, but we have enough to make a living. I couldn’t see why you would have to come here. A strapping boy like you should be fighting in the army.
Chien Lee: No sir. I have been enough battles in my life. I want to do what I can to get away from it. Live a more simple life.
Dock Worker: Well it doesn’t get much simpler than this. If you just want to make a living being a fisherman or a rice farmer, this is the place to be. One good thing is that you won’t find better sake anywhere in Japan. But other than getting drunk and farming, there really isn’t much around here.
Chien Lee: What about the people of this community?
Dock Worker: Well, it just like any other. It’s more or less a nice population with a few mishaps and crimes. Lately a few groups of bandits and gangs have been running rampant, but from the looks of it, I doubt they will give you too much of a problem. There are also a few illegal gambling and prostitution services around here if your info that kind of thing. It’s nothing major, just a little entertainment for a few drunken fellas.
Chien Lee: What about the war? How much does it affect the area?
Dock Worker: People are on edge here naturally. All of us are praying that it doesn’t spill into this area. A lot of families are in fear that the worst may happen. So far, we have been fortunate. However, I try to prepare those I can to evacuate. We try and store extra supplies just in case we must depart by ship. I pray that it doesn’t spring up on us. I know we can’t save everyone, but I hope we can save at least the women and children.
Chien Lee: What about the capital city?
Dock Worker: For now, it is being rebuilt. Like I said, I hope that the war doesn’t spill over into this region.
Chien Lee: Thank you sir. I think I will take this time to get familiar with this place. It seems like an ideal situation. Hopefully I can find work and start something simple.
Dock Worker: Anytime. If you really need to find work, you can always come to me for work. I could use a few guys to help us on fishing trips.
Chien Lee: Once again. Thank you.
Chien Lee begins to walk around and take notice of the scenery around him. He begin to get deeper in the heart of the village. Once he enters the heart of the village, he takes notice of everything around him.
Chien Lee: Hmmm…. Where do I go first?
Chien grabs the pendant that’s around his neck and holds it in front of him. The vision of the woman in his dreams appears as she places it on him.
